Dress Code and Uniform General Principles
It is proven that appearance and dress do influence behavior, and St. Gregory Classical Academy enthusiastically embraces the tradition of school uniforms as a manner of improving the community atmosphere and learning environment. All St. Gregory students must wear uniforms. Uniforms may be purchased at any store as long as they meet the guidelines below. Lands’ End, JCPenney, Old Navy and other local department stores carry school uniforms. Clothing may not have any logos present (Nike, UA, etc) larger than the size of a quarter. (Please see the Academy’s website). Uniforms are required for attendance at the school and must be worn every day unless there is an approved reason to wear something other than the uniform.
All students must come to school well-groomed and dressed in the complete uniform that is clean and (if necessary) pressed. Any student not in the SGCA uniform will be asked to make themselves presentable or may be sent home.
Please also note that for after-school activities, e.g., cross-country, clubs, etc., students must remain in uniform until after prayers and have been dismissed to their respective activities. The only exception to this rule is for students who have changed out for P.E. during their last period of the day; they may remain in their
P.E. uniform at prayers and dismissal.
Some events or field trips might require students to wear a “Formal Uniform”. This means that boys are wearing their appropriate uniform pants(khaki for K-2, khaki or grey for 3-8, and grey for 9-12) and girls are wearing the custom plaid jumper, skirt or skort. Shirts can be polo in either evergreen or white (K-8), and white Oxford shirt (9-12), school sweater (K-8) or school sweater or blazer (9-12). Furthermore, students in 9-12 should wear the St. Gregory Classical Academy tie on formal days.
Students are expected to wear jackets in cold weather, meaning that when they are moving to and from buildings or they are at recess, they are dressed appropriately per the weather outside. Students who routinely disregard this rule will be asked to use common sense when temperatures are cold outside. For purposes of this rule, cold is defined as anything less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
