Vision

St Gregory Academy’s telos of education is to help every person recognize that they are created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, each person possesses an inherent dignity which must be cultivated. Our purpose in accomplishing this is rooted in the classical tradition, which is guided by the Orthodox Christian traditionThrough the study of the seven liberal arts and sciences, we present opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations and thoughtful interactions with beautiful texts and ideas to shape a child’s affections towards truth, goodness, and beauty. We are committed to educating the mind, soul, and body through a three-fold holistic balance of the intellectual, moral, and physical virtues. Looking to the traditions and teachings of the Orthodox Christian Church, which focus on educating the whole person, our priorities are to cultivate humility, gratitude, and joyful self-giving, which culminate in a love of honouring God and others. This is the Christian duty of a lasting partnership between parents and school leaders to help train a child in the way he should go, so he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

CORE VALUES

The fundamental principles that guide our vision and culture come from the Greco-Roman tradition of both Classical Education and the Christian piety passed down to us from the Apostolic teaching of the early church. These precepts create an atmosphere that is dignified yet humble, giving gratitude and attention to what matters most.

  • Gratefulness- Gratitude informs our atmosphere and relationships.

In Orthodoxy, education is not simply the cultivation of reason or virtue in the abstract but the formation of the heart in eucharistia (thanksgiving).  Students encounter the world as a gift, seeing and approaching all learning as an offering of thanksgiving.

  • Attentiveness- Attention transforms students to think deeply, listen carefully, and respect others.

Education must therefore begin not with the accumulation of facts but with the cultivation of attentiveness: the art of listening deeply, the praxis of careful and thoughtful work, and the respect of all people and learning as a gift.

  • Christian Transformation- Christian education shapes our affections.

We do not conform to the educational patterns of the current trends or progressive and nihilistic ideologies. Instead, we guide our staff and students towards a true Christ-centered, transformative experience by prioritizing the habit of putting on the mind of Christ.

  • Nurturing the Whole Person- Through the Good, True, and Beautiful, each person is nurtured by what matters most.

Immersed in a curriculum and pedagogy that embodies beautiful ideas, students are motivated by beauty to love the pursuit of goodness and truth. Their whole body, mind, and soul are cultivated towards doing what is good, loving what is beautiful, and knowing what is true.
