Our principles and methods of instruction are driven by both our Orthodox core values as well as the Greco-Roman classical tradition. The pedagogy reflects the mission and vision of St. Gregory Academy.

Orthodox Pedagogy

  1. Prayerful Beginnings: Every lesson, like the Divine Liturgy, begins with a call to attention … “Let us attend!” Not merely a command for silence, but a summons to the ears and eyes of the heart.
  2. Slow Learning (Scholé): By slowing down, students can notice, receive, and respond with the generosity of gratefulness and deep interest rather than rushing through knowledge as if it were a commodity.
  3. Icons and Hymnody: Icons train the eyes to see sacramentally; hymnody trains the ears to hear theology sung. Together they shape attentiveness and nurture mindfulness, a reverent receptivity that honors what is given.
  4. Cultivation of Silence: In a noisy age, moments of holy stillness teach that silence is not emptiness but a reverent space where gratitude and care for what matters takes root.
