What is Classical Education?

To the classical mind, all knowledge is interrelated. Saint Gregory Classical Academy provides a vigorous classical curriculum steeped in the greatest texts and wisdom of the past. It supports the ongoing conversation of great minds throughout history.  At Saint Gregory Classical Academy, we believe that K-12th grade education should develop logical thinking, help students memorize key facts, and develop intellectual and moral virtues.  Our curriculum draws from the best classical textbooks available today, with an emphasis on primary sources. Running this curriculum (lit: course of study) is designed to provide a strong foundation in the liberal arts and humanities while fostering a love for learning and the pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness.

Students begin their journey with

  • Logic of English

  • Grammar and Latin from Classical Academic Press

  • Singapore math

  • Artistic Pursuits, and more

In middle and high school, they study:

  • The Holy Bible, the Philokalia, the Way of the Pilgrim, the Psalter

  • Novare Science, Dr. Jay Wile's Science through the ages

  • St. Maximos the Confessor, Dante, C.S. Lewis, and more.

They learn to write, to debate, to speak, to memorize poetry, to defend their views, and to sing. As an Orthodox Christian institution, we recognize the importance of spiritual formation, piety, and prayer.  We pray hours together daily in the church with the priest. We take catechism, study the Sacred Scriptures and divine services,  and practice our faith through ascetic disciplines such as fasting.  Our faith is woven throughout the curriculum, providing a holistic approach to education that nurtures the whole person.  Our academic calendar aligns with the Church calendar, and our major holidays are holy days. In study and practice and prayer, we inspire our students to pursue a life of service, humility, and compassion, in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, moral excellence, and spiritual depth. Our experienced and dedicated faculty are passionate about teaching and are committed to the success of each student.
